Creating Worlds with Words – Study Session & Kiddush Lunch

Saturday, February 11, 2023 20 Sh'vat 5783

11:30 AM - 12:30 PMSy Juster Auditorium
The letters of the Hebrew alphabet are viewed by our sages as the building blocks of creation: letters create words and words create worlds. Speech is a medium for creation both in the Bible and in our own lives. Everyone is invited to join for a Study session and Kiddush lunch to discuss the topic led by Rabbi Linda.
Thank you to Jeff & Donna Goldberg and Jim Whitehill & Jane Rodda for sponsoring the lunch in honor of Mitch Dorson, our teacher and our friend.
We would appreciate your registration so we can plan for lunch, however, it is not required to attend.

In the Mishna, Pirkei Avot 3:17, we learn that without bread (literally “flour”), there is no Torah; without Torah there is no bread. Interested in learning more but can’t make this event? Join Rabbis Linda and Jonathan at one of the other activities during our scholar-in-residence weekend.
  • Friday afternoon, jumpstart your Shabbat at 1pm for Baking: Shabbat, Tzedakah, & You
  • Rabbis Linda and Jonathan will be at Friday night services introducing the weekend.
  • Saturday morning, Rabbi Jonathan will deliver a d’var Torah on the week’s portion, Yitro.
  • Welcome the new week with Havdalah followed by breakout sessions on Sacred Sewing & Baking Biblically.
  • On Sunday morning the Rabbis will engage our religious school students in learning how a Torah scroll is made, proofreading panels of the Torah, and making bagels! The Sunday morning opportunities are only open to current Religious School students. If you are interested in the Kol Ami Religious School, contact Rina at

This weekend would not be possible without the generous support of the Mitch Dorson Scholar-in-Residence fund under the leadership of Jim Whitehill.
