Kol Ami Rapid Response

Government Shutdown Resources 2025

At Kol Ami, our core values of RespectPartnership, and Relational Connection guide how we care for one another—especially in challenging times.

  • Respect (Kavod Habriot) reminds us to honor the dignity of every person and respond with empathy and understanding.

  • Partnership (Shutafut) calls us to work together—members, neighbors, and community organizations—to lift one another up in moments of need.

  • Relational Connection (Yachasi) teaches that genuine community is built through kindness, compassion, and shared responsibility.

In the spirit of these values, we have created this Rapid Response Resource Page to support those affected by the government shutdown, including furloughed employees and individuals facing gaps in SNAP benefits. Here, you’ll find links to community resources and details about how Kol Ami is offering direct assistance to those in need.

Together, we stand with and for one another—strengthening our community through care, action, and connection.

Kol Ami Member Assistance

Kol Ami is offering $100 grocery gift cards to members impacted by the current government shutdown. We recognize that these times can bring unexpected challenges, and there is no shame in asking for help—this support is offered with complete confidentiality and respect.

Each individual or household may receive one gift card at this time. We will continue to reevaluate weekly as the situation evolves, with the hope of extending further assistance as needed.

If your needs exceed this and you’d like to make a different request, please contact Rabbi Malcolm Cohen by clicking here.

Donate to Provide Assistance

We invite those who are able to join us in this mitzvah of caring for our community. Your donation will go directly toward Rabbi Malcolm’s Discretionary Fund, which provides our clergy with resources to help those in need and to support the synagogue’s programs and community initiatives.

During this government shutdown, these funds will be used to provide grocery gift cards and emergency assistance to members and neighbors affected by furloughs or reduced benefits.

By giving, you are helping Kol Ami live out our values of Partnership and Respect, ensuring that no one in our community faces hardship alone.

Donate to Help Provide Assistance

Please be aware that Kol Ami clergy, staff, and board members will never contact you by email, text, or phone with an “urgent” request to purchase grocery or general gift cards. If you receive a message like this, do not respond or click any links. Instead, contact the Kol Ami office directly at (520) 327-4501 to verify any requests. Your generosity and vigilance help keep our community safe.
