Staying up to date on vaccinations is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and our community. We’ve gathered the latest local information on how to access the updated COVID-19 vaccine, including what to expect at pharmacies and county clinics. Please see below for details.

COVID-19 Vaccine Availability

Below is the most up-to-date information on where and how to access the updated COVID-19 vaccine in Tucson.

Pharmacies

Walgreens

  • A prescription from your doctor is required.

  • Prescriptions are brand-specific (Moderna vs. Pfizer).

    • If possible, request prescriptions for both brands.

CVS

  • If the location has a MinuteClinic: a nurse practitioner may be able to write you a prescription on the spot.

  • If there is no MinuteClinic: you will need a prescription from your doctor.

Health Systems

  • Banner Health currently has a blanket policy against clinicians writing prescriptions for the vaccine.

Pima County Health Department Clinics

As of September 9, Pima County does not yet have the new shots, but supply may arrive any day.

Eligibility Notes

  • If you are under 65, you may be asked if you are “high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19.”

  • This is a simple yes/no question — no documentation required.

  • Many common conditions qualify as “high risk,” including:

    • Being physically inactive

    • Asthma

    • Depression

    • History of smoking
